President's Message

Happy Easter!

Since our last correspondence, our Society has been active in preparing both local and international activities for our members. The biggest event was of course the preparation to bid for the International Federation of Cervical Pathology and Colposcopy meeting in June. Please come and help in the bidding in Barcelona. By 2008, I hope that the population cervical cancer screening should be in place for a period of time and we are able to show the world that Hong Kong has the best quality service both in cervical cytology/pathology and in colposcopy and the incidence and mortality of cervical cancer are in a downward trend. It is also for this vision that our Society is striving to develop training programme, to hold educational workshops and to develop database for auditing. We have also contributed to public education and publicity promotion. The HKSCCP is member of the Cervical Cancer Public Health Committee. We have prepared information to the public on cervical cancer screening and abnormal smear management in Chinese and it will be on the web soon. Ask your friends to visit the site and tell us if there is anything that needs to be improved. If you have some ideas on what should be on the Web or what the Society should do, please write to us and together we are going to improve the health of women in Hong Kong.

Bidding of IFCPC Congress

With the help of the Hong Kong Tourism Board and the Hong Kong International Congress Consultant, the bidding document was prepared and sent to the IFCPC. Our bidding was supported by the Hong Kong College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists, the Hong Kong College of Pathologists, the Obstetrical and Gynaecological Society of Hong Kong, the Hong Kong Tourism Board, the Secretary of Health and Welfare and the Chief Executive of Hospital Authority. Members of our society are encouraged to attend the Congress in Barcelona to support our bidding. The result will be announced during the General Assembly at the Congress.

The HKSCCP Website

The URL of our website is http://www.hksccp.org.hk. Something new has just been uploaded. Please come and visit it. In the near future, you will be given a logon name and a password, therefore, you will be able to enter the members' corner and download the lecture notes of our previous conferences.

Scientific Programme 2002

We are going to have a 2-day programme in May this year including a dinner symposium on the tenth of May and 2 workshops (a colposcopy workshop and a pathology workshop) on the eleventh. We have invited Mr. M Shafi, the Consultant Oncologist of Birmingham Women's Hospital and he has kindly agreed to come and give lectures as well as running the colposcopy workshop. The pathology workshop will be in the form of a slide seminar and it would be co-organized with the Hong Kong College of Pathologists. The details of the programme are attached (appendix one).

Colposcopy Database

The Government is planning a comprehensive database to go along with a population screening programme. Also, auditing of colposcopy service would be one of the items in a screening programme. In view of these, our Society together with the HKCOG are going to develop a database file for the purpose of auditing colposcopy service. It is hoped that this database would be used by colposcopists in institutions and in private.

Guidelines on Colposcopy Training and Services in Hong Kong

We are now working with HKCOG on the guidelines on colposcopy training and services in Hong Kong.

CPC 2002

Apart from the Scientific Programme in May, we are going to have another CPC later this year. Tentatively, it would be held in October in Kwong Wah Hospital.

Community News

Prof. Hextan Ngan and Dr. Susan Fan were invited as members of the Cervical Screening Task Force of the Department of Health on personal capacity.

Annual Subscription

The Annual Membership Subscription for the year 2002 is now due. As the Society is still young, we will need the full physical and financial support from all of you. Please fill in the subscription form (appendix two).

Donations

Our society is in need of funds for our development and regular activities. Any suggestions from members regarding ways in fund raising or potential sponsor would be much appreciated. Please contact the honorary secretary for any of your ideas through the email yyip@hkucc.hku.hk.

Thanks again for your support.
