President's Message

Dear members,

Time flies. I guess many of you are wondering what the Society has done so far since its inauguration. First of all, we have a logo and a Chinese name now. I hope you like them. Second, we have formerly applied to be member of the International Federation of Cervical Pathology and Colposcopy (IFCPC) and it is highly likely that we would be accepted at the next IFCPC meeting in Barcelona, June, 2002. The next exciting news is that we were invited to bid for the IFCPP meeting in 2008. More details about this bidding are in this Newsletter. I would like to call for support from members to join us in the bidding at Barcelona. Other exciting things in the progress of preparation include a Website of the Society and development of database files on colposcopy. Watch out for the launching of our Website. Another news is, the first Educational seminar is planned on October 15, 2001. Please mark this down in your dairy. I look forward in meeting you then.

I wish you a Happy Mid-Autumn Festival!

Hextan YS Ngan

Logo and Letterhead

We have designed our own logo and letterhead and you will see it soon.

Clinical Pathological Conference

In the coming October, we are going to have our first educational seminar. It will be in the form of a clinical pathological conference. Invited clinical pathologists as well as obstetricians and gynaecologists will present a few interesting cases and I am sure you will enjoy it. This seminar is going to be held on 15th October 2001 in the lecture hall at the 10th floor, New Wing, Kwong Wah Hospital. It will be started at 7:30 pm after light refreshment at 7:00 pm. The conference will be finished at 9:00 pm. One and a half CME points will be given by the HKCOG and HKCPath. The seminar is free to our members and HK$50 will be charged for non-members. Please make your booking by phone (2855 4518), by fax (2855 0947) or by email (yyip@hkucc.hku.hk) before 8th October 2001.

Colposcopy Database

There is no doubt that auditing is important in colposcopy. Therefore, our society decided to develop a colposcopy database for personal computer use. Not only for the generation of statistic reports, this database could also be used to prepare the consultation notes. The database would be provided for both private practice and hospital use. We also planned to seek accreditation from the Hong Kong College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists for CME points. In the future, we hope that the PC version could be interface with the CMS in hospital authority, so that one entry would serve all the purposes including consultation, auditing and data access by other hospitals. Besides, pathologists could use the same database to log down all the abnormal cervical smear results to facilitate data collection.

IFCPC membership

We have applied to be a member of the International Federation of Cervical Pathology and Colposcopy (IFCPC). However, our society could only be formally admitted at their next general meeting in Barcelona in June 2002.

Website

We are going to have our own website but it is now under construction. The tentative URL of our website is http://www.hksccp.org.hk and you will be informed once the website is available. The website will be opened to public and hope that our fellow members would take some time to visit it, so that communications between us would be enhanced.

Bidding of IFCPC Congress

IFCPC World Congress in 2008 will be held in Asia. IFCPC member societies in Asia are encouraged to consider hosting this World Congress. Approximately 1,000 - 1,500 delegates are expected to attend. Decision will be made by the General Assembly at the 11th World Congress in Barcelona, 9-13 June 2002. After discussion in the last council meeting on 18th September 2001, all members supported the bidding. The office bearers would form a preparatory committee. The Hong Kong Tourism Board and the Hong Kong International Congress Consultant have agreed to help in bidding the congress. We would write to The Hong Kong College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists, The Hong Kong College of Pathologist and other Societies for their support.

Donations

Our society is in need of funds for our development and regular activities. Any suggestions from members regarding ways in fund raising or potential sponsor would be much appreciated. Please contact the honorary secretary for any of your ideas through the email yyip@hkucc.hku.hk.

Thanks again for your support.
