President’s Message
Dear Members, With the introduction of the two prophylactic vaccines against the high risk HPV types 16/18, we have now entered into the beginning of the vaccine era in cervical cancer prevention. However, it will take some years before rational new cost-effective cervical cancer screening strategies can be established. At the moment, for the vast majority of unvaccinated women who may have already been infected, continued screening needs to be emphasized. In women vaccinated against HPV types 16/18, screening remains important to detect cervical lesions caused by high risk HPV types other than HPV16/18. Otherwise, benefits from HPV vaccines may be forfeited if vaccinated women develop a false sense of security and decrease compliance with recommended cervical cancer screening. Our Society will continue to play an active role in the organization of education activities for our health care professions to enhance the service for cervical cancer prevention and management. We have been active in the participation of local, regional and international conferences and workshops. Collaboration with various Hospital Authority administered hospitals and private hospitals as well as other local and international societies will continue.Support of members of our Society is most crucial to the success of such activities. Your suggestions regarding future activities of our Society will be most welcome. Best Wishes!
